This was in Hogan’s back yard. Andre had joined forces with Bobby The Brain Heenan. Heenan had convinced Andre that Hogan had been dodging him for years and Andre deserved to be the World Heavyweight Champion. Hulk and Andre had been the best of friends leading up to this encounter. Andre ripped Hogan’s shirt and the cross right off of his neck. This set up one of the biggest matches not just for Hulk and Andre but for the wrestling world at Wrestlemania 3.
Ive eatched alot of videos of Andre the giant. It seems to me he had a hard time acting the heal. His size made him a natural star but Hennan had to do the talking cause Andre was no good at being a bad guy. Loved he was by everyone. Still to this day i think this story line was one of the worst and least believable in the classic wrestling era. Todays pro wrestlers in the WWE just dont have the super hero like personas that the old timers like hogan, andre, rick flair, sting, macho man and piper . Maybe todays stars need more acting lessons or they just need a better story line regularly.

I just watched the special on Hulk Hogan and Andrea the giant. I have the greatest respect for both men. I love to watch both men wrestle. Very entertaining. Hang in there Hulk Hogan.
I live about 12 minutes from where the Silverdome stood. Never got to attend anything they had as I just moved here around 5 years ago.
That being said … I did see it get demolished earlier this year & they’re still removing parts of it now. Such a massive place. ALOT of events took place, this being by far the largest in the USA at the time & for the longest while.
Hogan was great & aside from his personal life, is still a good entertainer. I would have loved to see this live. At least I finally was able to see it last month with the missus on DVD we borrowed from a WWF (yes WWF, always) fan.
