Back in the early days of the Hulkster’s career, professional wrestling already had its fair share of legendary icons. Bruno Sammartino, Gorgeous George, Verne Gagne, and so many others that often get passed over when fans pick their favorites, but there is one wrestler that fans will never be able to forget.
André the Giant towered over all and even made Hulk Hogan a dwarf in comparison, but brother all that size was just holding one of the biggest hearts you could imagine. André and the Hulkster never really got along in the beginning, but once the pair got to know eachother it was like finding a long lost friend in the last place you would expect. André is an icon in wrestling history, and he’s someone who inspired the Hulkster to pursue the path of wrestling with everything he had. To end up working alongside the Giant was a surreal experience to say the least!
The name of the game though, was winning, and you can’t have two winners of the same title belt. After holding the Heavyweight Title belt for three years, Hogan was awarded a trophy on Rowdy Roddy’s ‘Piper’s Pit’, and everything was good between the Giant and the Hulk. Then, André got his own trophy for an even more spectacular achievement: being the only undefeated wrestler in the sport’s history.
Whether you think it matters or not, the size of the trophy does not equal the quality of the wrestler brother. André didn’t see it that way, although under the obvious control of Bobby Heenan it’s hard to say if André was being fed nothing but lies for breakfast. It was too late though. André had made up his mind to turn on the Hulkster, and he was ready to do it in a big way…
